In high school, he uses revisions by using critical thinking by gaining new perspective to present new information differently. Rodger describes his early writing process by having structured way of writing. He would write on certain days and would have a check list of what the teacher wanted in the paper. In college his writing processes changed by wanting to leave a mark on someone. In college he noticed his constraints that was put onto his writing. After looking at Rodgers college writing he has different views on how he writes and being creative with his writing.
3 Minute Reflection – 11.19.19
Something that a struggle within our group was getting things in on time to turn in our rough draft. I discovered that working in a group is relying on other group members to do their parts. Without everyone’s participation it is hard to finish the work that needs to be done on time. Working in a group doesn’t fall onto one person shoulders it fall on the whole group if it does not get done. Other things that I discovered was that working in a group can be very useful. When working alone you are unable to talk through your ideas, but when working in a group you can bounce ideas off each other.
Week 12 Blog
Prompt:
“Reflect upon how knowledge is made in writing via research, based upon your reading, your research in the group, and your experiences in other courses or areas of your life.”
Knowledge is made through research by retaining the information that is being provided for the writer. When reading information knowledge is being made by not just reading the words, but by connecting the words together and being able to recall what your have just read. When reading someone must understand what he/she is reading because if not he/she will not be able to discuss/write about the knowledge that they have read. In my research group was made by the four group members discussing and researching didn’t ideas. Each person brought different knowledge to share with the group. Throughout my life knowledge is made everyday. Everyday I learn knew things that I didn’t know before, I am creating knew knowledges with me experiences.
3 Minute Reflection – 11.5.19
As I am almost done with my first semester in college I feel really go with my grade and the time and effort I have put into my classes. I am a little stressed knowing that classes are coming to an end very soon, so I must look at my grade very closely. Some things that I still must do is finish revising my personal narratives and other things in the other classes.
3 Minute Reflection 10.29.19
Good writing is the most fun app ever and the most important part of my time. With my auto-text generator the sentence did not make sense and the text that was written is nothing like how I normally would text. With he auto generator it was spitting out words that I would use but had nothing to do about good writing. In my opinion good writing is when a point is given clearly to a reader, which the auto generator does not clearly make sense.
3 Minute Reflection – 10/22/19
Ways that I have grown this first semester as a reader is noticing the way I change how I read. I used to read an article just because it was for homework. Now been in college I have notice I have change as a reader, I always take notes or go back and make sure I understood the information that was there. As a writer I have grown my have been exposed to be topics like the personal narratives.
Experience in a Research Group
Working in a research group can be fun and frustrating at times. So far my group has finished everything on time and has put in the time and effort into the project. Working in a group makes it easier because I grasp onto information when it is discussed within a group. Since working with my group we have used each other to bounce idea off of one another which has made the process easy, instead of thinking/doing things on your own.
3 Minute Reflection – 10/15/19
Something that I feel confident about is looking for the information that my group will need, to finish the project. I think one of my skills of working in a group is communicating with my peers about the information or a question that I have. Something that I could work on is having different viewpoints on the different direction the topic could go because each person in the group will have a similar, but different view of how something should be done.
Week 7 Blog
Prompt:
Draft and publish a blog post in response to the topical reading you were assigned in your group. Your blog post should help your groupmates make sense of the reading (a short summary of the text) and offer a sense of how the text will help your group focus their research and move forward.
Research Topic: Analyzing Rhetorical Velocity in Social Media
Digital Literacy and the Making of Meaning by Komysha Hassan pg. 674
In the introduction of Komysha Hassan article she starts off by saying school’s library search pages resembles other online portals like Google. As a first-year student at the University of Central Florida, majoring in political science/pre-law, Hassan did extensive research on her university’s library search page between theoretical framing and rhetorical analysis. She compares each with her autoethnographic (cultural study, or one’s own experience and interaction with the world).
Komysha results found that schools library search page is first off-putting or unfamiliar which leads students to go to Google or another search engine that is more familiar.
Hassan goes on with telling that libraries are coming to the digitize world. Print media can no longer stand alone so experts say that authorships are taking place in the digital world. The difference from having a digital realm and a physical librarian your information is processed through a mediator which becomes an important part of the results. Digital formats rely entirely on user input because a library search does not collect information to build a profile like other search engines use.
Currently everyone must have digital literacy we cannot choose not to acquire the skill because of how important the skill is. The way we utilize it are factors that also determine what we make of information received through that medium.
With-in each search provider, all have determined an algorithm. Keith Grant-Davie experiments between user and textual environment. His rhetorical situation has four constituents, exigence, rhetor, audience, and constraints.
Hassan talks a little bit about Deborah Brandt’s piece, “Sponsors of Literacy.” In Brandt’s work, she thought it was useful interpreting those background influences on the creation of meaning.
Rhetorical analysis – researcher critically examining a certain text, disassembling its cohesive parts and determining how ad why certain actions of speech or visual argument were made. Ask the UCF research librarian questions. Which is helpful in broadening the research perspective to encompass a professional viewpoint of using the libraries search function. She talked about the design of UCF search page and how it effected it.
In conclusion the UCF design did affect the way she interacted with the portal. She found that quality over quantity in the digital space is essence. The format of the UCF search page reflects a certain digital tradition in which the traditional library does not belong.
Hassan believes that the digital world is not something to fear but rather embrace.
